Merida!!

This summer I went to Mexico with some class mates, and school mates. We left on July 24th from Chicago and landed in Cancun. My roomates were Kenzie (Olga), Stacey (Lilyana) and Holly (Roselina).

We had a great time togther and found out how hard it is being that far away from home for just a week. Although the others had access to the internet, skype, and facebook I did not. I bought two calling cards while I was down there just to call home.

My favorite place we visited was Merida. I liked it the most because it was what I least expected Mexico to be like. I expected the ruins to make me sweat and the water to be salty, but I had not prepared myself for speeding cars in one way streets that fit in to where ever they can. I didn't ecxpect to see so many stores of things that reminded me of Iowa. Merida didn't have all the crafts and handmade things the other places had. I spent most of my money in Merida because they had the lowest prices.

I went shopping on the streets in Merida with my roomates in the pouring rain. We had earlier learned about the rain god, and whenever we said his name it would rain that day. We now no longer speak of his name. I bought a sombrero in Merida and a very cute dress along with other shirts and skirts and gifts for others.

What also surprised me in Merida was the American resturants like McDonalds and Subway. The people there had good style. They sold a lot of heels that were too small for my feet, dressy clothes that I didn't care for because it wouldn't fit in back home and many hair accessories yhat I loved!
